Choke on it!

Good old Eyjafjallajökull is providing us a sneak peak of who it is exactly that we're messing around with. Our skies are invaded by an ash cloud who threatens to stay there indefinately. The audacity of that thing! Well, now both those who have had to cancel their travel plans and everyone else happening to be in Helsinki this weekend have the opportunity to attend the awkwardly named Helsinki Woman Film Festival, a.k.a. Artisokka!

From today until Sunday night, high-rated movies made by wise women are showed at Bio Rex. If you for instance have not yet seen The Hurt Locker, Sunday 8.15 pm is your chance (and mine). Tomorrow, on Saturday, my choice might be Drew Barrymore's first direction Roller Girl / Whip It, and I'm confident Pipilotti Rist's Pepperminta on Sunday afternoon is a real treat!

Here's to a) Mother Nature, and b) independent film festivals!

  1. Goodness, the goodness of The Hurt Locker! I would want to write about it in a post of it's own, if only there wasn't already so much written on it, especially after the Oscars.

    I'll think about it.

Hopefully we'll see more films like this in the future. I had gotten so used to moviemakers underestimating my intelligence, that watching the Hurt Locker felt almost like a 2-hour flattering, and certainly activated a lot of brain cells in a welcome way without trying to be a smart-ass, if you get my metaphor.
